“The enemies of humanity will never win.  Hand in hand, we will rid our land of terrorism.” Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria in response to an explosion that killed 32 people (initially, up to 49 at this writing) & wounded 80 others in the Nigerian city of Yola.

Note: I wrote this after learning of the bombing that occurred in Yola, Nigeria, shortly after the attacks occurred in Paris.  The bombs keep going off.  It is my hope that our words, fueled by our hearts, can some day blast back.

Yola

It was a day

like any other

Yola

The sun rose after setting

for his lunar brother

Yola

But lil girl didn’t know

what was in store

Yola

So what, she had already suffered much,

what’s a little more?

Yola

But to think, today

she had to worry in different way

Yola

Than bout being abducted

with a bad touch, like she was yesterday

Yola

So lil girl went

about her business

Yola

At the market stop

where her poor people did their business

Yola

Until this evening

when the perpetrators

Yola

Showed up & shook the world

beneath sun’s lunar brother

Yola

Lil girl already

lost so much

Yola

And to think, she had to worry

about more than a bad touch

Yola

Cause this new touch was

both vile and quite explosive

Yola

It killed with a loud boom

so damn atrocious

Yola

Lil girl saw

her people die

Yola

So tonight, like for Paris,

will you pray & cry?

Yola

Cause Nigeria can’t

get no love

Yola

Even when them BisHes done killed more

than those other bIShes in a year’s time…

Yola

While lil girl sits in the dark tonight

But without any light shed on it, is there still a crime?

Yola

A candle burning out in the wilderness

Humanity today’s more crass than the Wicked Witch

Yola

And far, far more evil

Than that green bitch

Yola

But there’s not any Green

There for the cameras see

Yola

Except for flags

And that’s a ghetto actuality

Yola

For the lights only shine

When you’re at the top

Yola

That’s why blood runs

red in her streets tonight

Yola

Cause the BisHes & the bIShes

Put their work into

Yola

As they did in Lebanon & Paris

They will conti-nue

Yola

Unless we can wake the fuck up

And bring about brand new…

Yola
